Every manufacturer provides a size chart that lists the size- XS for example with the inches and maybe the centimeters. This is just the beginning. Find out the ear to ear measurement and the front to back measurement.

Tip 2: DOT Certified. Since you are going to wear a helmet you should know if it meets or exceeds the DOT Specifications. This means that the helmet is Department of Transportation approved and will help protect you in the event of a crash or fall.

The weight of the material should be lightweight to be comfortable. The shell for the different sizes should be manufactured in different sizes - the sizes shouldn't change by just adding padding. At least look at this and make your own decision.

Tip 4: Read the information about the face shield. Is there a removable visor? Is it compatible for a face shield? Can you easily wear glasses with or without the face shield?

Tip 5: Look for a warranty of some kind and if an owner's manual is available. You don't have to read the manual - but more than likely the better helmets will have one available.

Tip 6: What about the EPS Liner? How thick is it? This might be important to you depending on the type of riding you do and what kind of distance you will travel. Some liners are more comfortable thinner - let's say 1 inch while others come 1.5 to 2 inches.
