A Motorcycle Is What Its Motorcycle Parts Are

Ever wondered why elephants don't lay eggs? A simple answer to this question can be because hens don't have trunks, but does that really make any sense? Same is the case when someone conceives a motorcycle and its parts as two separate individuals with different functions. So, what happens is they see the whole picture in bits and hence can't identify the problem whenever there is one. They say, you become what you eat and I say that you get a motorcycle of what quality motorbike parts you use in it. In a final analysis, motorbike is nothing but an assembled moto parts.

Putting aside the original equipment manufacturers (OEM), custom motorcycle parts manufacturers are the topic of our discussion right now. OEMs have to go through certain rules and regulations normally in the form of company policies and set standards, whereas custom parts manufacturers don't have to limit themselves because of these policies and hence there are more motorcyclists that head towards them for more options in the form of custom motorbike parts. The question is that there is plethora of custom moto accessories manufacturers, so which one is the best for you? Keeping in mind the above discussion in first paragraph, a motorcycle is what its parts are, the simple answer to this question is a manufacturer that has best motorcycle parts for you.

To know about what is a best motorcycle part is, it is important to know what a bad motorcycle part is. A bad motorcycle part is one that is costly, has bad quality and is not durable. A weak moto accessory is malfunctioning after some time and hence makes you spend some more money added to what you have originally spend this accessory. So, the best thing that measures the goodness or badness of a part is the durability factor. If a motorbike part is not durable, despite all its beautiful looks and others claims it's not good for your vehicle because it will not be performing good after some time.

When you become clear about the sole standard of goodness of any motorcycle part to be 'durable', you need to know about the materials available in the market that are famous for durability. You can conduct you own online research to find out the durable materials available in the market. After my own research, I have come to the conclusion that a stainless steel of type 304 is best material for motorcycle accessories. The reason is that it's durable, long lasting and good looking. Its properties like resistance against corrosion and rusting and extreme temperatures, welding friendliness, non- metallic nature and ductility put it ahead others. A stainless steel motorcycle part of type 304 is perfect for your vehicle both as quality-wise and performance basis.

Whether elephants lay eggs or not or hens start eating bananas or not, motorcycles will always be needing motorcycle parts to become motorcycles. Type 304 stainless steel motorcycle accessories are the most durable ones, affordable and beautiful in looks. What else you want?

More Moped Driving Tips

In a scooter online forum, a lady inquired about how to drive a moped for the first time. She bought an electric moped because she had seen a lot of people in her town driving one, and the idea of saving money on gas was very appealing. But she was very frustrated, because when the time to ride her moped came, she did not know what to do with it. She asked, "Is there a guide available online that will teach me how to operate a moped?"

In my opinion, this is not an isolated cry for help. A lot of people are buying mopeds and electric bicycles out of necessity, because they are cheaper to buy and operate. Some of them might not have a previous experience with motorized scooters and eventually will be facing the same problem. This article is an attempt to help first time moped drivers to get it rolling. So, what do I do when I don't know what to do with my moped scooter?

Firstly, you need to know the physics of riding any two-wheeled vehicle. We know that a bike stays upright when it is steered to keep its center of mass over its wheels. This steering is usually supplied by a rider, or in the case of a motorized scooter, by the bike itself. Basically, the challenge is to keep your body in balance. A good training for moped riding would be, to learn how to keep your balance while riding in a regular bike. If you know how to drive a bicycle, you won't have problems driving a moped. There is one difference though, that you have to keep in mind: in driving motorized bikes, mopeds and motorcycles, speed is your friend. By this, I mean that when you drive your moped, you have to keep the inertia, so that it won't fall over. While it is an everyday occurrence to see a bike rider keeping balance in a very slowly pace, or even in a motionless state, with motorized bikes, mopeds and motorcycles, the slower you go, the less stable and balanced you will be.

Secondly, you need to get familiar with the process of starting the engine. There are a few key components located on the front part of your moped that are vital to its safe operation. Here is what you need to do: take the time to locate and get acquainted with all those components. Keep in mind that there can not be a universal set of instructions to operate all mopeds, because they vary according to the brand, model, size and source of power.

You must locate the ignition switch. Once you find it, turn it on with a key, much the same way you would in a car.
Then, find the start switch. Most mopeds come with a start switch, which must be in the "on" position. If it has a kill switch, it must also be in the "run" position.
Depending on the brand, you might need to quickly kick one of the pedals in order to start the moped's motor.
Situate the throttle grip, which is the bar where the hands usually go to maneuver. If the motor is on, you control speed by twisting this grip. If you twist it forward, the machine gets decelerated; if you twist it backwards the speed increases. It behooves you then, to learn how to use this speed control. In order for the moped to roll forward, slowly twist the grip backwards. As you gain confidence, you will increase the speed.
Before you start rolling, make sure you know where the brake levers are. You can't miss them. They are located at the two extremes of the moped handlebar. They serve to slow down or stop the vehicle. It is very important to learn how to balance the two. The right lever serves to apply the front brake, and the left lever is for the rear. To avoid unnecessary accidents, make sure you apply steadily increasing pressure to both brake levers simultaneously.
Before you take off, make sure the mirrors are positioned correctly, that you know where the switch to activate the headlight beams is.
Once the moped is moving, put you feet off the ground and into the footrest platform, or in other cases, on the pedals.

Thirdly, make sure you implement these steps for the first time in an isolated area, where traffic would not be a factor that add to the stress of the new experience, or put in danger your physical integrity, or that of others.

Lastly, when you finish your ride, take these steps in reverse. Decelerate, stop the vehicle, put your feet on the ground, turn off all switches, get your keys, lower the kickstand to settle the moped and make sure you leave it in a secure place, with the safety devise locked.

If you follow these tips, you will surely enjoy your first ride on your new moped scooter. I can assure you it will be a thrilling experience. But first you need to know the physics involved in riding a moped. It's all about balance. The faster it goes, the easier to keep balance; the slower we go, it becomes a lot more difficult to keep balance. Also, you need get familiar with the different components your moped has on the front part. Don't be afraid to test them. It will not be difficult to learn how to use them properly. It would be ideal for an experienced driver to teach you how to operate your moped, but the next best thing you could do is to heed the tips given in this article. Have a safe ride!

Breaking the Clavicle (Collar) Bone

Racing a motor bike is a high speed sport with many dangers; one of those dangers is always the problem of breaking a clavicle bone due to a high speed crash and the rider hitting the track surface. It's not very often that the rider has time to put an arm out in the hope it will break his fall.

Unlike most common breaks to the collar bone, when a racer breaks his clavicle this is more often due to the impact of the shoulder hitting the track at speed. This results in the clavicle suffering a number of breaks and fractures along its length.

What is a Broken Collar Bone?

There are 4 basic types of bone in the human body, long, short, irregular and flat. The collar bone is a flat bone and attaches at the Sternum and the Scapula. The Clavicle is one of the most frequently broken bones in the body. A broken Collar bone is an extremely common shoulder injury for Moto GP riders, World Super Bikes and most other forms of bike racing. A broken Collar bone usually occurs during a fall from the bike when the rider falls at speed when entering a corner or exiting a corner. More often than not this is due to the rider being thrown from his bike in what is called a High Side. The rider is thrown into the air or slammed onto the tarmac. The force transmitted through the shoulder is enough to cause the collar bone to break in many places.

What can you do to prevent a Broken Collar Bone?

It would be too easy to say "don't fall off" or "slow down" but the very nature of the sport is to be the first rider into the corner and the fastest out of it. Tyre technology has advanced very quickly over the past 10 years and with it the electrics that control sliding (Traction Control) and breaking forces (ABS). The one area that hasn't changed over the years is the protection offered to riders and very little improvements have been made to leathers compared to the advancements made in motor bike technology. The majority of all riders now wear chest and back protectors and air bags are being slowly introduced. When tyres do let go and high tech electrics fail, it all goes wrong very quickly and before the rider can react he is on the floor and more often than not it is usually a High Side that is the cause of the fall. As tyres improve and technology improves, corner speed is going to get faster, entry speed is going to improve and the riders will be carrying more speed through the corners.

There was an attempt to slow riders down in Moto GP by officials when they reduced the size of Moto GP engines and they went from 1000cc to 800cc, the problem with that is a smaller bike is quicker through the corners and most track records (fastest lap) have been broken this year. The decision has been made to go back to the 1000cc engines at the end of this year. Will this slow down Moto GP riders into corners and will it reduce the amount of broken clavicles that we have seen this year? Time will tell.

What should you do if you suffer a Broken Collar Bone?

The clavicle is an "S" shaped bone that connects the shoulder (Scapula) to the breastplate (sternum). The clavicle is very near the skin, and it can be seen and felt very easily in most people. The joint between the clavicle and the part of the shoulder blade called the acromioclavicular is known as the A/C joint. The joint between the sternum and the clavicle is known as the sternoclavicular or S/C joint. The clavicle is designed to support the shoulder, acting like a strut that helps to align the shoulder with the rest of the chest. It also acts as a fixing point for many of the muscles in the shoulder girdle such as the Trapezius, Deltoid and the Pectoralis major muscles. The clavicle is one of the bones that do not produce marrow in the human body.

After a high side incident and a broken clavicle are suspected a rider will always be referred to hospital for treatment and x-rays. The x-ray will show how the bone has been broken. The result of the x-ray determines what kind of treatment is best suited for the rider.

A break that does not have two ends of the bone out of alignment and overlapping would not normally need operating on and would be left to nature to take its natural course. The muscles of the shoulder girdle will massage the bone back into place along with muscle memory.

When a rider is thrown from his ride at any speed, the end result is the clavicle bone breaking or fracturing in a number of places. In recent months Collin Edwards broke his clavicle in 5 places, Cal Crutchlow broke his at Silverstone and Dani Pedrosa broke his in 4 places. For most riders at this level time is not an option and surgery is the only way ahead.

A clavicle bone will normally repair in about 8 to 12 weeks and should be in a sling or a figure 8 bandage during this time. With surgery this can be reduced to 4 weeks and a rider can be back in the saddle in less. Surgery is normally done when there is a shortening of the bone or displacement.

For whatever reason it is, doctors in the UK are reluctant to pin clavicle breaks. It is their belief that it causes problems in later years. Current research being conducted in the USA on this subject is not of this opinion. US doctors believe that this is out dated and clavicle bones should be repaired as soon as possible there is no need to be in pain for a period of 12 weeks or longer. A broken clavicle can be reset and pinned some 3-4 years later after the initial break took place.

10 Things About Motorcycle Training and the CBT

The CBT or compulsory basic training has been around for more than 20 years now and is aimed at helping to reduce the number of motorcycle and moped accidents, especially those involving young and inexperienced riders. What follows, in no particular order are ten things about the CBT that you will most certainly encounter if you want to get yourself and your new bike on the road.

1. C is for compulsory - I suppose the most important thing to realise about the CBT is that it is in fact a compulsory training. A new motorcycle rider will not be permitted legal access to the roads and highways unless the CBT has been successfully completed.

2. Mopeds and Motorcycles - The CBT covers both of these machines and once completed only grants access to those machines that are 50cc or less and that has a top speed of 50 mile per hour.

3. If you have a car driving licence you may still need to take the CBT to ride a motorbike. It all depends on when you acquired your car license. If it was any time after February 1st 2001 then you will be required by law to take the CBT in order to legally ride a motorcycle or moped on the roads.

4. There are different elements in the CBT that you will encounter. Firstly you will learn things like foot controls, handlebar controls, how to read the instrument panel and basic machine checks.

5. Next up, you will learn things like basic riding, including clutch controls and changing gears. Along with indicating and rear observation you will also learn braking, junctions and U-turns.

6. It won't all be practical learning as there is plenty of theory to go through as well. The Highway Code will be instructed along with lots of advice and awareness teaching, so that your knowledge is thorough, not just of your machine but of what to expect when you finally hit the roads such as road and weather conditions.

7. The final stage of the CBT will be to gain some practical experience on the roads.

8. You will put into practice the practical elements learned within the confines of the training centre.

9. In addition you will tackle roundabouts, pedestrian crossings, how to deal with obstructions and more.

10. Once all of the elements have been completed, you will be assessed and if successful will be awarded the certificate of completion.

Mini Choppers

Mini choppers are small bikes that are primarily made for kids but may also be used for offroad racing by adults. Mini choppers may look rough and tough, just like motor bikes but the similarity ends there. These machines have smaller engines that may range anywhere from 25-125cc. Thus, it is obvious that these machines are very much toned down when compared to the meaner and bigger bikes.

Typically, choppers are custom designed although it is possible to buy them readymade. These are characterized by a relaxed and laidback seating position. The long fork gives them a truly sporty look. Just like professional bikes, the rear wheel has a wide base. The engines are customized to give out extra muscle and they emit a powerful sound.

Prices of mini choppers vary and depend on the design as well as the features of the bike. The kind of tires used, the power of the engine, petrol capacity are some of the features that decide the price of the chopper. While some choppers are built for show others are made for racing. Some choppers are meant for longer distances and these are more expensive when compared to bikes that are meant for fun only. Choppers meant for serious driving have wider tires for more traction. These are also equipped with powerful gears and brakes to ensure speed as well as safety. Good parts ensure longevity and therefore cost more.

In most cases, mini choppers are not street legal. This is because the bikes are lightweight and may easily topple. Also, mini choppers have very low speeds of below 50mph. However, some bikes are permitted to be driven on the roads. Street legal mini choppers must meet safety specifications and drivers must always use protective gear when riding them. That said, it must be remembered that riding mini shoppers on public roads is very dangerous because motorists may not really take notice of this toy edition. Mini choppers were devised for entertainment driving only and are meant for playgrounds, parks, campgrounds and other protected spaces.

Mini choppers may be custom made to suit individual preferences. DIY kits are available for those who want to try their hand at building their own bike from scratch. However, these kits are very basic and contain only the basic parts. Typically, they are meant for people who want to build a showpiece that offers some amount of fun. For serious purposes, the person who is building the bike has to research various components and finish building the bike according to individual requirements. Many people opt for DIY bikes because they are generally less expensive when compared to finished bikes. However, the actual price of the finished bike will depend on the components used by the person building the bike.

If you are buying finished bikes, it is necessary to find out the make and brand that are best suited for your needs. Make sure that you buy mini choppers from a reputed seller so that you can enjoy good after sales service.

Motorcycle Clubs 101

So You Want To Start A Motorcycle Club Series?

Motorcycle Clubs 101 "Bylaws"

The heart of a well-run motorcycle club can be found in its adherence to its bylaws. So whether you are starting an MC, taking one over or trying to make yours better your first goal should be to establish or strengthening your club's bylaws.

What is so great About the Bylaws?

Think of the bylaws as being as important to your club as the United States constitution is to our country. The bylaws are the constitution of your motorcycle club. If you have strong bylaws that are coherent, fair and adaptable, and your MC strictly adheres to them-your MC will have discovered a recipe that will set it up to last for 50 years or more with great success! No member will stand above the bylaws and that fact serves to keep everyone honest-thereby keeping the MC eternally strong!

What Sorts of Things are Contained in the Bylaws?

The bylaws are your club's bible. They document the history and beginnings of your club. They state the mission and the motto of the club. They specify how club members and officers will conduct themselves, chain of command, order of succession, how dues will be paid, how fines will be levied and how much fines should be, how and when elections will be carried out, how prospects (or probies) will be initiated and how punishment will be meted out. Bylaws also specify the powers and responsibilities of club officers, terms of office, financial protocols the club will follow, dates for annuals and other historical functions, as well as the qualifications for club membership and the criteria by which members may be dismissed. The bylaws are in fact the very document that give your MC the authority to exist and operate.

Should your Bylaws be set in Stone?

For the most part your bylaws should be set in stone; however, every set of rules must have the ability to adapt to changing culture, technology, people and times if they are to remain relevant. So your bylaws should be a rigid but flexible document and should be set up so that a two-thirds club majority can amend them during a normal or special vote. This is a key element to having great bylaws.

From Where Should You Obtain Your Bylaws or is it Better to Just Write Them?

When looking for a source for your bylaws you should never just sit down and write them from scratch. There is no need to reinvent the wheel in this case. Consult a motorcycle club that you hold in high esteem and ask them if you can obtain a copy of their bylaws so that you can base your club's bylaws upon theirs. Oh, by the way, the club you should ask should be thirty years old or older. The reasons for these suggestions are:

It would take you perhaps six months to think of and write everything from scratch, that the bylaws should contain in them.
An older club's bylaws have been "matured" over time and well-tested. They will contain subjects in them that you may never consider because in the past 30 or more years they have seen basically everything and their bylaws will contain the answers you will need to handle the best and worst case scenarios your club is bound to experience.
Bylaws strong enough to keep a club running for three decades will be strong enough to get any new club started.

We've got a Set of Bylaws, Now What?

After you obtain a set of bylaws you should sit with your prospective club members and amend those bylaws until you transform them into bylaws that work for your proposed motorcycle club. Notice that I said proposed motorcycle club. No motorcycle club should form until those bylaws have been written. This way you will have an operations guideline from day one that clearly spells out everyone's responsibilities, positions and requirements. This will keep you from going down the wrong road before you head down that road.

One More Thing about the Bylaws!

President's, I get so damned sick of club members coming up with suggestions or asking me things that are clearly stated in the bylaws, don't you? New Presidents, after you get a good set of bylaws written and adopted insist that your members know them backwards and forwards if you want your jobs to be easier. The best way to do that is to have a reading of a chapter or two of your bylaws at the start of each club meeting. And always, when one of your non-reading club members asks you something silly that has been covered in the bylaws-make them LOOK IT UP instead of telling them the answer! This will make your club member stronger in their bylaws knowledge and that cannot be bad!

Saving Gas By Riding Scooters? You Bet!

Having gone to the gas station one too many times lately, many Americans are now wondering what to do with the skyrocketing prices at the pump. Some turn to public transportation, or carpooling - all great ideas, but many prefer to have their own means of getting around. A cost-effective solution is simply to buy scooters: electric scooters and gas scooters.

As a wonderful alternative to the motorcycle (which many find too expensive, especially with insurance premiums), electric and gas scooters are all the rage. Scooters also have a few advantages over other means of transportation.

Saving gas is one of the benefits, as electric scooters and gas scooters don't use up a lot of fuel or electricity. The average "fuel" cost for an electric scooter is a few cents for a full charge, the average range anywhere from 15 to 30 miles. Gas-powered scooters are simply highly fuel-efficient to ride, like motorcycles.

Price of the vehicles are much less than even a used car, no matter the brand of scooter in question (maybe Segway being the sole exception). Scooters are also much more fun to ride than cars, typically, with the wind in your hair and riding in the fresh air.

There are a few concerns when choosing to ride scooters, such as safety. Some parents refuse to allow their teenaged children to ride scooters for this reason, but responsible driving and wearing helmets can go a long way to alleviating the problem.

Another concern is the fact that the weather can prevent the use of a scooter for obvious reasons, but some enterprising frugal commuters simply don rain gear and keep on going as usual.

In most cases in the U.S., scooters are classified in a category that does not require a driver's license or insurance, another benefit. There are limits, however, such as speed limitations. In California, for instance, scooters traveling faster than 25 mph will need to be licensed as motorcycles and the appropriate insurance provided.

Finally, speed may be a factor for some depending on need and distance from common destinations. Given all that, however, scooters are a viable option for most people when it comes to budget transportation needs. With the latest in scooter technology, even gas scooters come in "green" models, utilizing propane gas versus petroleum fuel.

Considering the benefits scooters provide, weigh the pro's and con's and by all means, shop around for the best scooters if you want to save money on gas, and want to buy the best quality scooters around.

For a list of some great scooters, such as the Trikke Pon-e and gas scooters for sale, read the reviews at RideOnToyscom.com. Be prepared to be amazed at how far scooter technology has come, however - these are not simply play things, they're great rides for all ages!

Moped Bikes: Perfect For Campuses And City Life

Everyone now a days hates walking place to place. Although it is a sad thing, at the same time, it is nice to be able to get in a car and cruise to your destination. But with the economy the way it is, and gas prices all over the place, who wants to waste gas in their car? When I need to simply drive to the corner store to grab some milk, or go across campus for my calculus class, driving a car is terrible. It's the short, stop and go traffic that kills gas in cars. Driving your car through cities, and campuses can be very wasteful. I finally had enough of it and decided to look into some alternatives. I came across a special type of moped, called the moped bike.

This vehicle is essentially what it sounds like, a moped, and a bike. I got a moped bike about two weeks ago and my transportation has never been the same. With my bike moped I get upwards of 100 miles to the gallon, and pay way less for gas then I ever did in my car. I use my 50cc moped to get from class to class, to friends appartments, or simply to run to the store and grab a bag of chips.

What I like best about my bike is the fact that it's not just a moped. Normal mopeds are simply gas powered, two wheeled vehicles. Well my bike moped is a heck of a lot more than that. When I run out of gas on my moped, I'm not waling anywhere! Unlike normal mopeds, my moped bike has pedals hidden in the side that pop out and allow me to pedal like a normal bicycle. Using my moped in campuses and small cities is that much better haveing this type of scooter. If I run out of gas, theres no need to worry. Most of the time I'm within a mile or so of where I'm going or coming from, so having the ability to ride the vehicle as a bicycle as well is an amazing feature.

Having a moped is pretty cool I must say. But for me having a moped bike is just ten times better. Being able to pedal if I run out of gas is just super convenient, and also a good workout. It has good trunk space, very sleek, and very durable. I wouldn't get a normal moped ever again, It's that much better to me! I feel that all college students or people who live in small cities, should all consider getting one of these fantastic vehicles.

Points That Make Motorcycle Mufflers Cheapest for You

Is price the only considerable point to buy cheapest motorcycle mufflers?

A lot of you will be replying as 'yes' to this question. Anyhow, buying a motorcycle accessory at low price is not a difficult task. There are numerous manufacturers with cheap motorcycle accessories' offers. Buying cheap motorcycle parts is not a problem! The real problem with buying these accessories is that we have not only to buy them but also have to use them in our vehicles. So, what happens if you buy a cheap exhaust pipe is it starts malfunctioning after some time and eventually you have to change it with another pipe (this time a better quality pipe to avoid the same hassle). As a matter of fact you have to pay more than the actual price of a good quality motorcycle pipe that you could have bought at first time and thus could have avoided unwanted hassle and could have saved time and money.

So, what is that single point that makes motorcycle mufflers really cheap for you?

A durable, long lasting and guaranteed motorcycle muffler! And, where are these pipes manufactured? The answer is simple but detailed!

There are different materials used in the manufacturing of the motorcycle exhaust pipes. If you come to know that a motorcycle manufacturer has manufactured a pipe using stainless steel grade of 304, this is the pipe that your vehicle needs. The reason is this pipe is durable, long lasting and its manufacturer will provide you a limited life time guarantee against it for the features it has. So, the answer is a stainless steel 304 motorcycle pipe!

Following are the features that make stainless steel exhaust pipes cheapest for you:

Non-corrosiveness: Stainless steel pipes are non-corrosive and hence keep their surface corrosion-free. This ultimately increases the age of the motorcycle part. Corrosion damages motorcycle parts badly and they're ruined soon and eventually start malfunctioning after some time of their buying.

Very resistant: Stainless steel 304 pipes are very resistant to extreme temperatures. This allows motorcycle parts perform in a better way for as long as almost 20 plus years.

Lasting looks: A big part of motorcyclists want to change their exhaust pipes just because they want to put their personality in their vehicle. They quench this thirst through custom motorcycle parts and exhaust is the part that becomes the starting point. A stainless steel motorcycle muffler not only helps the motorcyclists get their desired customized looks but also make these looks lasting because these parts themselves are durable and long lasting.

EPA-compliance: Another very beneficial point of these pipes is that they save their riders from hefty fines for not following the regulations passed by EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). The reason is again their endurance and durability that allow them to remain EPA-compliant and hence there are no time to time fines.

So, if you sum up all these fines and costs that these stainless steel motorcycle mufflers help you save, you will get the detailed answer of how to save maximum. Stainless steel motorcycle accessories are the cheapest motorcycle parts!

Three Important Mini Bike Facts You Must Know

Motorbike riders often use the term mini bike in referring to miniature motorcycles that also run on fuel. These bikes can run for approximately 30 miles on a full tank of gas. It is quite popular especially to motorbike enthusiasts who wanted a taste of adrenaline rush in the race tracks. Historical Background

These bikes were very popular during the 60's and 70's. They were first made in the 50's. It became amazingly popular when kids saw racers use such bikes to ride through the pit during races. Due to this, most kids suddenly wanted to own one for their own. Hence, companies began marketing the mini bikes and sold a lot of units to kids who wanted a miniature motorbike they can easily use.

Races involving this type of bikes were also conducted. Go kart race tracks are often used for these races, mostly using pocket bikes. There is a race category for adults and the kids. Some tracks even rent out bikes to paying customers such as adults who wanted to experience riding a mini bike and those kids who love to race and dream of one day becoming motorbike racers.

Mini Bike Safety

Safety is always a major concern in riding miniature bikes. It is difficult for adults to maneuver these bikes around when they first started out. As the rider, you must never forget to wear the proper safety gears when riding. One of the most important safety gears is the helmet. You should never ride without it. In fact, there is a law stating that motorcycle drivers must wear a helmet at all times while driving their vehicles. Though mini bikes may look safer in terms of its size, it can still cause an equal damage as a normal size bike may result to when having an accident. Countless injuries and accidents can be traced to motorbike riding as their cause. To avoid this, it is necessary to ensure that essential safety precautions are made. This is highly recommended especially for young riders who can be very aggressive when driving.

Recent Advancements in Technology

Nowadays, bike companies are providing new bike models to provide their consumers to with more options to choose from. But there are some states, and countries that have a specific law for the use of motorbikes. Like in the UK, it is highly illegal for you to drive around in one of these mini bikes. The only place they allow the use are in motorbike tracks and privately owned lands. Anyone who is caught riding these bikes in public roads, the police will arrest the rider then seize and destroy the vehicle. In the US, however, there are also some states wherein these bikes are illegal to drive on public roads. But there are some pocket bike models allowed to be driven in public roads. These are the ones that meets the vehicle regulation standards. Mini bike models X18, 19, and 22 are the only bikes of this type that meet the proper vehicle regulation. It have taillights, headlights, turn signal lights, horn, side mirrors and a speedometer. Still, the rider must follow proper safety measures such as always wearing a helmet, carrying the vehicles license, registration, and insurance, and never driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

These mini bikes are very cool and eye catching to the public. But the most important rule when riding these mini racing machines is to always follow the proper safety precautions.

Counter Steering

The first thing to understand about cornering is counter steering. Steering is a simple enough operation but most riders have learnt to corner or steer a motor bike without fully understanding the process or principles involved.

By pushing the grip in the opposite direction you wish to turn this will start the turn and the bike will start to lean. This action is known as counter steering. By pushing the right grip left you will counter steer and the bike will turn right. Counter steering is the only way a bike will turn with speed and accuracy.

It sounds complicated but you have been doing it the whole time you have been riding without realising it. A motor bike will not turn simply by leaning, you can veer off by leaning your body weight but it takes time and you are not in full control of the machine. In fact this will only work at low speeds and is not recommended.

The dynamics of steering.

As you approach a right hand corner you lean right into the corner, the bike starts to turn right. Because you are holding on to both grips your left hand is pulling on that grip and pulling it towards you. Now the bike is leaning over you put more pressure on the right grip, this pushes the grip away from you. This is the push/pull action and we all do it unconsciously all the time. Once you have reached the desired lean angle you can stop the push/pull action. The bike will stay at this angle until you change your body position and will remain leaned over. There is no need to hold the grips tightly, this is wasted energy, relax.

If the corner tightens as you go around you will need to apply the push/pull action again and lean off the bike further. Counter steering can be applied very aggressively, as you approach the corner at speed you lean the bike and apply the push/pull action with force. This will speed up the cornering lean angle and the bike will drop very quickly. This can take the rider by surprise when you are learning to be aggressive.

Counter steering when applied on the track will speed up your entry into the corner, allowing you to carry more speed through the corner and giving you better exit speed from the corner. To come out of the corner push the grips into the direction of the corner, this will sit the bike up, applied with throttle control and looking forwards to the next corner will improve your exit speed.

Young and inexperienced riders try to turn the grips into a corner when they think they have over cooked the turn, as they get wider through the turn they roll the throttle off. Both actions are wrong and will lead to disaster. It's impossible to get the right approach for each corner, there are variables that must be taken into account. Bumps in the road, camber changes, slides and so on. You must be able to make steering changes as you travel through the corner. You must remain relaxed and look where you want to be all the time.

If you cannot make small changes in the turn you will become a one dimensional rider and you will lose speed and momentum through the turn as well as accuracy.

The counter steer.

You must practise counter steering to understand how it works, it takes up valuable time as you approach a corner to get right. It's important to understand how it works so you can make the correct adjustment during a turn. Remember, seeing a pot hole or the corner tightens up, you cannot turn into the corner, this will send you wide, apply more push/pull action to avoid an obstacle or to turn in faster as the corner tightens up.

The more you practise counter steering the more proficient you will become, it's a bit like putting your seat belt on in the car in the dark. You know exactly where it is and where the buckle is. This is muscle memory, you have done it so often that you don't need to think about it anymore. The same must be applied to counter steering, so that when a car pulls out in front of you, counter steering is second nature and you don't try and turn the bike in the direction you want to go. It doesn't work. If the corner tightens up, counter steer to bring the bike in.

Counter steering if applied correctly will aid your riding and make your track days a better learning experience.

Braking - It's Not an On/Off Switch

Tyre technology has moved on very quickly over the last few years, as have braking systems. Drum brakes are a thing of the past and mono block callipers have taken braking to a completely different level. So tyres have had to do the same, it's no good having the best brakes possible if that force cannot be transmitted to the tarmac. With duel compound tyres for grip and mileage and heat transfer bars, there's a tyre for all occasions.

It's a misconception that brakes are either on or off, you have a braking point and that's where you put the brakes on, the brakes come off when you reach the start of the corner. If only it was that simple, it's important to understand the forces involved in braking. Under heavy braking the weight of the rider and the weight of the bike is transferred to the front tyre. On the open road and under normal conditions about 75% of the weight is transferred to the front tyre but in race conditions this can be 90% or more.

Due to the weight transfer to the front wheel the back brake is inefficient at stopping the bike and is very rarely used correctly. Most riders no longer use the back brake for heavy braking. Using the back brake is a skill all of its own and is more often than not used incorrectly and causes the rear wheel to slide or jump. Under very hard braking the back wheel will come off the tarmac and start to weave, this can be controlled by the back brake. Pressing the back brake lever with the right foot will bring the back wheel under control and steady the bike into the corner. It takes practise to get right and supreme confidence.

The object of the braking system is to reduce the speed and stop the motor bike. Like I said earlier, brakes are not an on/off switch and need to be used as you would your throttle. Coming out of a corner the throttle is used to gently adjust your exit speed until you can increase your speed to full power. The brakes are used in much the same way, a lot of people call it trail braking.

When you reach your braking point, the brakes are applied as hard as required to scrub off speed and then adjusted as you enter the corner. You are trying to maintain as much speed as possible through the corner, so don't over brake into the corner. It is just as important to have a release point as it is a braking point. Another words, where you let the brakes off, the braking point and the release point will change as you begin to brake later into the corner.

Combined with braking is the ability to judge speed, this is very important if you want to increase your speed on the track through corners. The key to judging and maintaining speed is the ability to be smooth. Using the brakes as an on/off switch will cause the bike to act differently each time and unsettle the bike.

The average rider will use 50, 70, 90, 100, 90, 70, 30 % braking into a corner, a better rider who uses late braking will use 100, 90, 40, 20 % into the corner, the advantage to this is less time on the brakes and a faster entry speed. It's easier to judge speed in this manner as the bike responds the same each time.

In order to improve your lap times you need to be smooth, have the ability to judge speed and have confidence in your tyres as well as your own abilities.

There is only one way to obtain full confidence in your font brake. Knowing when the front wheel will lock up and slide. The best way to find out is to travel at about 10 mph and lock up the front wheel. It sounds very drastic but it's very necessary to find that point of travel on the front brake lever. The front wheel will want to tuck under, simply let the front brake off and the bike will sort its self out very quickly. At speed the bike does not want to go down, so the sooner the brakes are released the better. Once you have mastered the feeling at 10 mph, increase the speed to 30 mph and so on. The bike will react in the same manner at 90 mph as it does at 10 mph. Knowing what it feels like and knowing what to do will not only save the bike but boost your confidence.

Another way to improve corner speed is to front brake and throttle at the same time. If you are already using two fingers to brake you will find this much easier to master. This method of braking is great for allowing the rider to change down, blip the throttle and brake very hard at the same time. This type of braking with throttle control demands a smooth operation of the clutch or it will unsettle the bike as you enter the corner. Once again in order to master this technique it must be practised until the rider is confident enough to act smoothly with the throttle and the clutch combined with the front brake.

Heated Motorcycle Clothing and Independence Day - A Perfect Match

The annual Independence Day Parade in Vail, Colorado is cheered by locals and thousands upon thousands of summer visitors to the town. The parade is always led by a large contingent of Harleys and their riders rumbling through narrow streets decked out in their 4th of July best, shaking buildings and rattling windows. It's a very exciting way to start a small town parade.

Tradition has it that the Harleys travel through Vail, up to Leadville, over Independence Pass and down into Aspen. Now it may be the middle of summer, but there's still plenty of snow at Independence Pass (12,095 ft), as well as icy winds and winter-like temperatures. These are the perfect conditions for heated motorcycle clothing. With recent advances in heating technology, heated clothing is light-weight, windproof, flexible and easy to pack. So it makes perfect sense to start out warm and stay warm on this beautiful ride by packing some heated motorcycle clothing for the stretch over the Continental Divide.

But be aware that heated motorcycle clothing isn't just for summer anymore. For year round riding in temperate climates or to extend the riding season in other, less temperate parts of the world, heated clothing provides comfort and warmth like nothing else available. Sitting still on your bike over long distances, your body doesn't generate enough heat by itself and needs an external heat boost. Dressing warmly by piling on the layers is effective for only so long and the Sixty, Sixty, Thirty Rule will eventually come into play. Traveling at 60 mph in 60 degree weather, the wind chill is 30 degrees. Under these conditions, your body becomes progressively colder, starting with hands and feet, and eventually affecting your core temperature. Heated motorcycle gloves and socks, as well as heated grips, will go a long way toward protecting your extremities from the cold. But for distance riding, it's vital that your core stays warm, as this keeps the whole body warmer. A heated vest or jacket liner is just the thing you need. This isn't just a comfort issue. Your safety is at risk when you're cold.

There are numerous suppliers of quality heated motorcycle gear. And there are numerous choices in your search for comfort and warmth - heated gloves and socks, heated vests and jacket liners, heated pants liners, heated scarves - ranging in price from about $60 for heated socks to about $300 for a heated jacket with built-in temperature controller. Considering the benefits of warmth, comfort and safety; heated motorcycle clothing is definitely a bargain. Not only that, you'll enjoy another level of Independence - this time from the weather.

Motorcycle Helmet Cams With iPhone 4, 4G Streaming App Needed

Back in my younger days, I used to love to race my motorcycle around, as I had a Honda Hurricane, and later I traded that up for a 750 cc Slingshot. During that time I used to love to strap on a video camera on the side of my helmet with duct tape. This was of course 20 years ago and back then the video cameras were not small and compact like they are now, and the camera weighed quite a bit. Since I strapped it on to my helmet, I had to always hold my head at a certain angle to get the right shot, and over time my head would troop to one side.

It was quite fun to show those videotapes at parties, and it looked kind of funky as I would lean into a corner, and the video camera would be almost on the ground, depending on which direction I was making the turn, yes, I had scrap marks to prove it! Today however I have a better idea; since the iPhone 4 has apps for the 4G video streaming. It would be very easy to strap one of these smart phones onto the front of the motorcycle near the headlight, and go hog wild in the canyons or on the track and get some great footage.

Not only that, but you could do it in real time streaming video. Meaning your friends could watch as you cruise through the canyon on their iPhones. Meanwhile you could save it all and post it later to YouTube, or use it for a homemade movie. Indeed, the same helmet cams could be used for Skydiving, base jumping, or all sorts of other high adrenaline rush activities. That would be so cool, and best of all, all this technology exists now.

The other day I called a friend who is a former Semi-Pro Street bike racer in the 500 cc class. He said he'd look into it, but he heard that some folks were already doing this, albeit using slightly different technology. He liked my concept because it wouldn't cost very much to deploy this technology and use it for this purpose. In fact, he has a 4G iPhone 4, and he is considering going out and trying it. It makes perfect sense, and it would be a good way to hone your skills, and learn from your mistakes.

After all, mistakes in racing can cost you life or limb, or a ton of money if you crash. Therefore, it seems this technology could increase safety in motorcycle racing. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Heated Motorcycle Clothing - So What's The Deal?

First of all, heated motorcycle clothing isn't just for bikers. Experienced riders have known and enjoyed the benefits of heated motorcycle clothing for some time now. But maybe you're a casual, warm-weather rider. Or maybe you don't even own a motorcycle. Fortunately, heated clothing is versatile, light-weight, waterproof, windproof and adaptable to many cold weather activities.

How do you know if you're a candidate for heated motorcycle clothing?

If you've ever sat shivering in a cold duck blind waiting for dawn and wishing for a little warmth, then a heated vest or jacket liner would probably make the wait seem much shorter. Or if you're fishing in an icy creek and end up with icy toes inside cold waders, heated socks might allow you to stay a little longer and land the big one. If you're a serious yachtsman, you've no doubt pulled watch on a cold night. Dark and cold is no fun. Dark and warm is much better.

Other outdoor activities and jobs that take place when it's cold - snowmobiling, skiing, watching football, ranching, outdoor security, freight packing and delivery- can all be made more comfortable and in some cases safer, through the use of heated motorcycle clothing. And if you live in a place where the winters are long and cold, turn down the thermostat, turn on the heated clothes and possibly save on your heating bill.

So how does it work? Heated clothing can be powered by a rechargeable battery pack or, if you're a biker, the bike's motor. Various manufacturers offer lines of compatible battery packs, cables, connections and adapters, and many of these are interchangeable with the different brands of clothing available. In addition, there are many cable configurations which allow for the use of one piece of heated clothing -- or several connected pieces -- for full body comfort.

As heated clothing has become more popular, and with advances in heating technology, more manufacturers have jumped into the ring.. This has served to enhance and expand the range of heated clothing available, while keeping the price affordable. Heated clothing is generally priced between $60 for a pair of heated socks to $300 for a heated jacket with built-in heat controller. Consider the benefits provided by heated clothing -- warmth, comfort, extended riding season, enhanced safety. Why not experience heated motorcycle clothing and see for yourself? Don't let cold weather have the upper hand - it's just not necessary.

In other words starting small will get you where you want to be - just keep on keeping on.

Don't risk quitting your day job until you are sure this is something you really want to do. But do treat your new side work as a business, working it full time on the weekends is a great idea.

By testing the water like this you will discover if making the adjustment to starting your own motorcycle shop is something you really want to do or not. You will also learn if this is really the line of work you want to do all day.

The number one reason most folks fail at starting their own business is because they can not adjust their hobby over to a business. Changing your hobby to a business means your motivation changes. So starting off small with your Motorcycle Shop business will actually break the BIG picture down to smaller different views of this dream.

If you notice your interest has changed, keep a positive attitude and KNOW you are not in the same place you were before this lesson. Once this happens you actually begin to tolerate things much easier because you are heading in the direction you want to go. The old saying that Rome wasn't built in a DAY becomes very clear and you know your on the road to success.

A Short Guide to Buying Motorcycle Battery Chargers Online

There is nothing more fun than riding your motorcycle on the weekends. It's especially true in the summer when the weather is nice, and you can actually use your motorcycle for travel.

If you do plan to use your motorcycle for personal travel though, it's a good idea to make sure that you do the proper maintenance so your motorcycle doesn't break down. One of the most important things you will need to do is purchase a motorcycle battery charger.

The reason is that that motorcycle batteries tend to use their charge quite easily. If you want your battery to maintain its charge, then you will need to recharge it on a regular basis.

You have a lot of choices available here, but my personal favorite is a solar powered battery charger. There are several reasons, including its portability, the fact that it can be used in cloudy weather, and it's easy to store and take with you.

Now, before you waste your time and money buying things you don't need, there are a few things you need to do before making your purchase. Do your homework, and you'll avoid spending money you don't have.

First, you'll need to check your current battery on your motorcycle. There should be a plate on it. Write those numbers down as you'll need them later when you are searching. You'll also want to know the make, model, and CCs of your motorcycle. This can also be used to find the battery you need.

You'll also want to check the current condition of your battery to make sure it doesn't need to be replaced. It's a waste of time to buy a battery charger to charge a battery that won't hold a charge.

Checking your battery is simple. Make sure it has enough water in it. If it needs additional water, add only distilled water. Then you'll check to make sure the battery is clean and not leaking. And, finally, check to make sure that the battery is holding its charge.

Once you have this information, do a search in the search engines for batteries. Make sure you search for motorcycle batteries. Never, ever use a car battery charger to charge your motorcycle battery. If you do, you will damage the battery, and you'll have to replace it.

When you've found several sites where you want to shop, there are certain things you'll want to check. Do a search for a battery charger.

Compare the brand and price. These really are the most important considerations. The brand will tell you the quality, and getting the charger at the best price will save you money.

Check the return and refund policy. If the charger is the wrong one or doesn't work, you'll need to return it, so make sure you understand what these policies are. It will save you a lot of hassle. You'll also want to check to see which sites give you free shipping and handling. You'll need to factor this into the cost.

Now it's time to place your order. Select the site you want. Make sure that they offer secure ordering. (You will see the https in the browser address.)

If you order well ahead of time, how quickly you get your charger isn't important. If you need it quickly, check to find out how much it will cost for rush shipping. Again, this is a factor in the overall cost of what you're ordering, so you need to consider it.

Buying motorcycle battery chargers online will save you a lot of time, money, and hassle. Make your next motorcycle trip the best ever by planning ahead.

Impact Battery offers a large selection of motorcycle batteries for every need. They offer a line of motorcycle battery chargers. Dual Pro Chargers are available as well.

Men And Women Who Ride Motorcycles Don't Have A Death Wish

There are lots of opinions about men and women who ride motorcycles, but few of them come from men and women who ride. Is it dangerous? To a far lesser degree than is advertised.

Once the teenage testosterone cases who ride like they have something to prove, and the drug and alcohol addled riders are removed from the statistics, the numbers of deaths and accidents drop dramatically. For all of the riders I know, coffee is the strongest beverage consumed during a riding day. I can't speak for the motorcycle riders parked in front of bars, but they are in the minority. I know more men who've died playing tennis and golf than motorcycling.

Danger isn't the reason men and women ride. We ride in spite of it. Why have I ridden motorcycles for the past twenty-five years? Simply put, there's no other activity that delivers the same level of excitement and thrills. Riding well requires well-honed skill, and riders love to be skillful because it increases the pleasure of the ride.

I can't saw wood, hammer nails, or fix a car, but I'm a highly skilled rider, which means I know how to ride my motorcycle to its maximum potential. Leaning over hard, down shifting, entering a curve in the road, and ending up sitting straight and tall in the saddle afterward is a thrill. Riding for an entire day on nothing but little traveled back roads, breathing in the smells of fresh mown hay, wildflowers, cattle and horses, seeing spectacular views, and stopping for lunch along the way, is about the best day I can imagine.

I may not exceed 50 mph the entire day, or use a higher gear than third, on those country roads, but the thrill of knowing how to experience that to its fullest exceeds the need for speed. I suppose that for some riders it's all about riding fast like their hair is on fire, but for me and most riders, that's not the point at all. We all want to live to ride another day.

Being good at any sport requires practice, and motorcycling is no exception. I've spent a several days over the years riding race tracks at schools run by ex-motorcycle racers, to improve my skills. Understanding the gyroscope effect that is a motorcycle, and using that effect to its maximum feels magical.

I'm noticing more women on motorcycles, and the industry reports that 10% of all new bikes are purchased by women. Considering how many people ride, that's a lot of women. I love to hear them talk about their ride at the end of the day over a glass of wine. They talk about the joy of riding in the same terms as men who ride. I'm noticing more men and women riding together, but on separate bikes.

The next time you see a man or woman riding a motorcycle, give them the benefit of the doubt. Assume they just love what they're doing and can't imagine not doing it. If you've ever had any fantasies about riding motorcycles, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation is a nation organization that has taught millions of people how to ride safely. It's a weekend course and they provide the helmets and bikes. It's a terrific, safe way to get started.

Once you're on the road, if you're in a group of riders, remember to ride your own ride and not be influenced by other riders who may or may not be more skilled. Ride at a comfortable level that doesn't make you stressed or worried. Start riding on a smaller bike, 250-500c.c., and move up as your skills improve.
